Rodney’s Story: From the Inside Out
There was a time when I felt like I was merely treading water showing up for life, but never fully living it. I knew there was more inside me to be discovered, more gifts to share, but I couldn’t quite name what was missing. I searched everywhere for answers, only to learn that the truth I needed was waiting quietly within.
I grew up in a home shadowed by poverty and fear. The abuse I endured as a child was the kind that stays locked behind closed doors so intense that if it happened today, my parents might well be in jail. Back then, no one talked about it. You simply survived it.
I’m six-foot-six and live with kyphosis a generic back disorder often called a hunchback. That spinal curve made me an easy target for teasing, both at school and out in public. In the 1980s, there was virtually no understanding or treatment for kyphosis you simply learned to live with it.
At home, it wasn’t any easier. My parents didn’t allow friends over, so I spent most days alone, yearning for connection. In that loneliness I drifted into the wrong circle people who didn’t care about my back but who introduced me to alcohol and drugs. Those substances became unwelcome companions as I searched for belonging.
In my twenties, life got even harder. I found myself living on the streets for a short period. Health challenges both mental and physical kept piling up. At times, the weight of it all felt too great to bear. It was the kind of life that could fill a dozen books.
And yet, in the midst of that chaos, a whisper began inside me: Reflect. I started to notice my recurring thoughts, the stories I told myself, and the feelings I kept locked away. Overcome. I made a simple choice: not to fix everything, but to face it. I learned to reframe setbacks as invitations to grow. Drive. I took small, intentional steps forward imperfect, heartfelt, and consistent. Gradually, they built a momentum that changed everything.
I didn’t want a quick fix. I wanted something I could return to on the good days, the hard days, and every day in between. That’s how R.O.D. was born in my own life:
- A compass when I felt lost
- A gentle push when I felt stuck
- A reminder that growth is a process, not a performance
I created R.O.D. to offer others the very thing I needed most: tools, language, and permission to live with presence and purpose. You don’t have to have it all figured out you only need to commit to the rhythm:
Reflect. Overcome. Drive.
The Heart Behind R.O.D.
Why R.O.D.?
R.O.D. began as a whisper in the quiet a question: “What if your daily struggle could become your daily strength?” Born from real life, not theory. From moments of doubt that demanded clarity. From hurdles that became catalysts. Reflect. Overcome. Drive. Not just a phrase but a daily rhythm. A personal philosophy that anyone can live by.
Rodney’s Story
I created R.O.D. because I needed it myself. Not a quick fix. Not a feel-good quote. But something real Something capable of meeting me in the thick of it and move me toward meaning.
Reflecting showed me where I was stuck. Overcoming taught me that growth isn’t always graceful. Driving forward helped me take back control one bold step at a time.
Now, I share R.O.D. as a framework for others who crave self-leadership rooted in soul.

What It Means to Be in Rhythm with Your Rise
There’s a quiet power in rhythm. It doesn’t shout, it doesn’t rush but it always returns. That’s the truth I discovered in the space between setbacks and breakthroughs. And it’s the truth behind R.O.D.
R.O.D. wasn’t born in a workshop or studio. It began in moments of pause on long walks, in handwritten thoughts, and in conversations that held space for the messy in-between. I wanted to create a framework that wasn’t just about goals, but about grace. Something that didn’t treat growth like a checklist but a cadence.
Reflect. Overcome. Drive. It’s not just a sequence it’s a cycle. It mirrors how we really rise: gently, again and again.
Whether you’re here because you’re seeking clarity, shaking off an old story, or ready to move in a new direction… welcome. You’re right on time. Your rhythm, your rise it starts right here.
Prompt to try: What part of my rhythm have I been ignoring lately?

Micro-Rituals That Shift Everything
Big change doesn’t always arrive in loud moments. Sometimes, it begins when you light a candle. Or draw a card. Or take three grounded breaths before the world wakes up.
That’s the power of micro-rituals tiny practices that tether us to something steady inside.
Here are a few R.O.D.-inspired rituals you can try in future:
- The 7AM Check-In: Pull one Reflect card with your tea. Journal what it opens.
- The Lunchtime Reframe: Midday? Draw an Overcome card. Let it interrupt autopilot.
- The Drive-Time Intention: Before bed, read a Drive card and ask: What am I waking up for tomorrow?
You don’t need more hours you need anchor points. And when those anchors hold, everything else shifts with them.
